At JOA, we work with different wood species — solid bamboo panels, oak-veneered bamboo, walnut, and others — to meet the desires and needs of each custom furniture project. Concerned with respecting the authenticity of each species, we protect our creations using natural oils. Our woods are never stained: we highlight their natural color, grain, and character. Whether you envision a custom solid wood bookshelf, walk-in closet, kitchen, or staircase, every JOA creation is designed and manufactured in our Belgian workshop, from conception to installation. What is the difference between solid wood and veneered wood? +

Solid wood is made from a single species of wood, from the surface to the core of the piece. Veneered wood, on the other hand, consists of a panel covered with a veneer of fine wood. While both can offer a beautiful aesthetic finish, solid wood stands out for its robustness, durability, and its ability to be sanded and restored over time. This is why we at JOA prioritize it for all our custom creations.

What wood species do you offer at JOA? +

We primarily work with solid bamboo panels as well as bamboo panels veneered with oak, walnut, and other species depending on the project. Our selection evolves based on our clients' desires and the specificities of each realization. When you contact us, we will guide you towards the most suitable species for your project and your interior.

How do you maintain a solid wood piece of furniture? +

Our solid wood furniture is finished with natural oil, which facilitates its maintenance over time. Regular application of an appropriate maintenance oil is sufficient to nourish the wood and preserve its luster. Daily cleaning with a simple slightly damp soft cloth is enough. Avoid aggressive household products and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can alter the natural color of the wood.

Is solid wood a sustainable and ecological choice? +

Yes, on several levels. Its exceptional longevity makes it an economical choice in the long term: a well-maintained solid wood piece of furniture lasts for decades. At JOA, we use natural oils to protect our creations, without aggressive chemical treatments. We never stain our woods: we prefer to reveal their natural color and grain, rather than mask them.

Can I customize the finish of my solid wood furniture? +

Absolutely. Each project is unique, and the choice of wood species is an integral part of the creative process. We do not offer stains: our approach is to enhance the natural color, grain, and character of each wood. However, you can choose the species, dimensions, shapes, and manufacturing details — all designed and custom-made in our Belgian workshop.
