“We were looking for a bookcase that would fit seamlessly into our living room—something that could cover the entire wall and also include a built-in desk.”
In Gilles’s case, we quickly realized that the space hadn’t been fully optimized since the end of their renovation. It seemed natural to make the room’s atmosphere warmer and more inviting. The main functional requests were to create a bookcase with ample storage for books, a concealed work area, and drawers for organization.
By carefully studying the space, we designed smart storage solutions that save room while adding a distinctive style.
Throughout our discussions, Gilles showed a strong preference for our bookcases that feature a dominant use of wood paired with anthracite metal uprights. The goal was to create contrast with the white wall and large picture window, resulting in a warm and contemporary feel that matched the rest of their home. This combination of materials allowed for refined finishes that add both elegance and modernity.
At the end of the design phase, this is the project we refined together before moving on to production approval. It’s a true co-creation process every one of Gilles’s ideas was taken into account to design a bookcase that genuinely reflects him.

A bespoke bookcase with a dynamic, living design
Our interior designer, Mélissa, approached this project with the goal of creating a well-balanced composition between open and closed volumes. The overall design of the bookcase is more horizontal than vertical, perfectly framing the walls on either side.
The prominent curve on the left side softens the corner and makes the space more welcoming. By adding adjustable shelves, we made the design adaptable to the evolving needs of Gilles and his family.
The Y-shaped steel uprights also emphasize the dynamic aesthetic of this bespoke bookcase through their deliberate yet seemingly random structural placement. This framework not only provides a solid foundation but also serves as a striking visual element that adds character to the whole design. The choice of colors and finishes was carefully selected to complement the warm and refined atmosphere Gilles envisioned.

Aesthetic and functional options
At Gilles’s request, a magnetic screen cover was seamlessly integrated into the design. The idea was to easily remove it during work hours and conceal it once the day is over. This way, the piece returns to being a complete bookcase, with no visible screen in sight. By incorporating solutions like this, we enhanced functionality while preserving the harmony and elegance of the space.
