Is the television an essential part of your living room?
If so, having a custom-made TV unit is the perfect way to design a stylish and functional entertainment area that lets you enjoy every moment to the fullest. Your living space deserves careful planning—especially when you choose bespoke furniture. To help you make the right decisions, here are our 5 tips for creating your ideal TV corner.
But before anything else, it’s essential to determine the ideal placement for your TV within the room.
Choosing the right location for your custom-made TV stand

Depending on your habits
Whether large or small, your television naturally draws attention from anyone in the room. Even when switched off, the dark screen still has a presence in your living space, as it absorbs light and contrasts with its brighter surroundings.
We therefore recommend choosing a location based on how you use it. If you turn it on every day for the news, a series, or movie nights, it’s best to place your TV area in a fairly central position so that everyone in the household can watch comfortably.
On the other hand, if you only watch television occasionally and prefer to highlight the social and welcoming atmosphere of your living room, we suggest positioning it more discreetly, perhaps in a corner, so it doesn’t dominate the space.

Depending on your environment
Whatever your viewing habits, don’t forget to consider how your custom-made TV stand is positioned in relation to your windows. Avoid direct reflections that may interfere with your screen during the day. It’s also important to maintain a comfortable distance between your sofa and the TV to protect your eyes. As a general rule, the ideal distance is about two to three times the diagonal of your screen—time to do the math!
Another detail that might seem obvious but is often overlooked is the location of your power outlets. Whenever possible, choose a spot with enough sockets. Managing the tangle of cables behind the TV can be tricky, so it’s best to integrate them smartly into your custom-designed TV unit, keeping them neatly hidden.
Now that you’ve determined the perfect placement for your TV area, it’s time to decide what should be built into your custom-made TV stand, a soundbar, Wi-Fi router, DVD player, or other equipment. Taking these into account will help you better define the amount of storage space needed for your entertainment area.
The next step is to choose the type of unit and the functions you’d like it to include. Let’s explore our design tips to help you find the perfect setup.
The visual comfort of a low, custom-made TV stand
There’s no single standard size for the ideal TV unit, it always depends on your needs and available space. Generally speaking, a height of around 50 cm to 90 cm offers the best visual comfort.
At JOA, we’ve designed many custom TV units, each one unique. Our goal is always to bring energy and warmth to your space. A low-profile unit has the advantage of keeping the wall above free and uncluttered, creating a lighter, more harmonious visual effect.

The overall effect is restful, but be careful not to fall into the trap. The idea is not to have a soulless living room, but to find the right balance with your decor.
A custom-made TV stand in a corner
As you know, we’re very fond of curves. And for good reason: it’s the management of a curved corner that naturally extends a piece of furniture from one wall section to another. Not only does it make the room flow more smoothly, it also enhances the corner by making it warm and inviting. Curves are a welcome alternative to reluctant corners.
In this case, a long, continuous line running the length of the room creates a harmonious whole. Combined with a sober, white environment, the custom-made TV stand alone brings contrast and warmth to the space. Available here entirely in solid bamboo, it features trap doors in the lower sections to accommodate speakers.

The unit can also feature open compartments to create more depth and visual interest. You can enhance it with metal sliding doors or even combine wood and metal for a unique, contemporary look.
Extending the design further, your TV corner can transform into a bench seat, a bookcase, or even a desk area. You have the freedom to blend different functions seamlessly rather than having separate, disconnected pieces. The result is a space that feels harmonious, multifunctional, and beautifully cohesive. What more could you ask for?
A design TV corner with a wall unit
Whether your custom TV unit is designed for a corner or along a wall, opting for a floating design is always a great idea. It creates a piece that appears to hover lightly, adding a sense of airiness to the room.
If your wall structure allows, you can even create a custom composition with a few shelves to enhance both storage and design. This approach lets you personalize the space and make it truly your own. Even when the television is turned off, the surrounding area remains dynamic, elegant, and visually engaging.

Why not play with suspended elements at different heights to create a balanced and lively composition? Dare to imagine your TV area as part of a global, cohesive design rather than as an isolated feature.
Global integration of a custom-made TV stand
Sometimes, the living room lacks storage or space for a bookcase. In that case, combining a bookcase with a TV unit is a popular and clever solution. It allows the TV area to blend seamlessly into the rest of the room, creating a harmonious and vibrant ensemble rather than a separate zone.
At JOA, multifunctionality is one of our greatest strengths—and we offer several ways to bring it to life in your home.
Curve bookcase model
Designing a beautiful bookcase that integrates a TV area with our Curve style is an excellent way to keep the back wall visible, allowing you to play freely with wallpaper, colors, and shadows. This structure combines freestanding and wall-mounted elements, giving the composition both character and lightness while highlighting the overall design.

Additionally, consider integrating lighting to create a warm, inviting atmosphere. By incorporating LED strips into the wood, the unit comes to life even when darkness falls, highlighting the space and adding a cozy ambiance.
For the vertical structures of this type of TV unit, we can offer several options for posts and supports. Whether your style leans toward minimalist or organic, you can explore the possibilities in our showroom or online.
Pô bookcase model
Let’s look at another project example, where the goal was to integrate a TV unit into a niche with irregular shapes. With the Pô unit, structured with solid wood compartments and topped with a thin steel sheet, we created a large TV unit that fits perfectly into the architecture.
It features closed storage spaces, a few slim shelves, and a large niche for the television. Every element has its place, leaving nothing to chance, resulting in a design that is both functional and visually harmonious.

This type of TV unit can also extend over a larger surface. By spreading across both sides of the room, it combines a TV unit, bookcase, and sideboard into a cohesive design. A unique feature of this project was the ability to conceal the television when it’s not in use.
But that’s not all—by creating a detachable module separate from the main unit, it can be moved to create a partition between the living area and the dining area. This is a smart solution for those who watch TV only occasionally and prefer to highlight their bookcase while maintaining a flexible, multifunctional space.
