3 ways to hide your TV with a custom-made furniture
Finding a solution to hide your TV screens into your interior design is often a headache. While we all enjoy watching a good film, a series or the news while relaxing in our living room, we don’t always take responsibility for our presence once the television is switched off.
For some years now, televisions have been tending to get bigger in order to get closer to true home cinema. However, it’s not unusual for customers to ask us to find clever ways to hide their TV. This way, they can hide it as soon as they’ve finished using it.
At JOA, we’ve developed a number of tricks to help you hide your tv and integrate it easily in a custom-made furniture.
The advantage of our approach to creating a made-to-measure TV cabinet is that we can take everything into account beforehand. There’s no room for unpleasant surprises or unforeseen events. Every detail is taken into account from the very first sketch of the project. When it comes to finding a solution to hide your tv, it goes without saying that you start from the base of the TV unit, while taking into account the second function, to hide the screen as subtly as possible.
Discover our three best solutions to hide your TV and harmonise your home.
1. Sliding doors to hide your TV
For over ten years, we’ve been creating functional and aesthetic furniture combining steel and solid wood. From the outset, the sliding door system has always been one of our favourites. And with good reason: it’s a simple, practical and efficient system. Most sliding doors are used for storage, but they can also be used to hide your TV screen.
Their advantage lies in their compact size. Our sliding doors are available in 16mm-thick wood or 4mm-thick metal. In both cases, whether closed or open, the doors take up very little space on your furniture. This helps to limit the volume of the TV cabinet.
To be able to slide, the door must have at least the equivalent of its length in one or two segments. Once open, sliding doors with TV covers will always be visible, which is why it’s so important that they look good. This led to the idea of giving our metal sliding doors a more graphic touch. By creating an openwork pattern, we add texture and volume to a flat surface.
These doors can also be used on other parts of the furniture, creating an overall coherence with the same formal language. The result is a TV screen in harmony with the rest of the furniture.

2.The magnetic screen cover to hide your TV
Although sliding doors are a great way of concealing your television, they are not always possible. In fact, the length doesn’t always allow the sliding doors to be integrated on either side, due to the dimensions of the screen. That’s why we’ve come up with another system that allows you to integrate a TV screen that’s less constrained by the surrounding space.
As with the sliding doors, this option is available in either solid wood or metal. For greater lightness and discretion, we prefer the metal screen cover, which can be made of steel or aluminium. By folding the metal sheet, this TV cover can be fixed directly to the top shelf. Magnets are attached along the length of the fold for easy positioning.
This TV cover can be positioned behind the television when it is being viewed. If space allows, it can also be positioned to the side or completely separate from the cabinet. This system is suitable for all types of screen, whether television or computer. When combined with a bookshelf or desk unit, the screen’s existence is completely forgotten. The eye is drawn to the furniture and its sights, and the presence of a screen is forgotten.
3.Swivel furniture to hide your screen
The pivot unit is an elegant and innovative solution for concealing a television screen. The TV is integrated into a pivoting compartment in the cabinet, so that the screen disappears when it is not in use.
This system is particularly popular in large living areas or open spaces, where the furniture can be rotated through 360 degrees to reveal or hide your TV. The mechanism is manual, offering maximum flexibility and ease of use. The double pivot allows the TV to be positioned centrally, making viewing more enjoyable. This is a great way to make use of wasted space and expand the possibilities for positioning living room furniture.
Moreover, the side opposite the television can be used for other functions, such as shelves for decorative objects, books or even a mirror, adding a practical and aesthetic dimension to the whole. The choice of metal here marks the intention of a minimalist, discreet design, in stark contrast to the oak furniture.
Choosing the right materials and finishes for this type of tv stand is crucial to ensure it blends harmoniously into your interior. At JOA, we offer customised options in solid wood or metal to suit any style of decoration.
